The shameful war in Iraq
How can George War-Any-Which-Way Bush tell us confidently that there will be no more wars if he gets re-elected? What he means is that
the economy is back on its feet and it would be pointless for more Americans to die in another war, so no more wars are 'scheduled'!!!. I wish I were making this stuff up, I really do!!!
The fact
that does'nt seem to penetrate his fortress of unreality is that most Americans do not think that going to war, and getting killed, for
economic reasons is a reasonable thing to do, even if the power of America makes it possible.
Guys working nine to five don't mostly benefit
from big military contracts, anyhow, unlike Cheney and his henchmen. Even if jobs are temporarily easier to find, don't count on getting a
bigger share of the pie in the long term, you know that's not how it works. They'll find a way to grind you down (that's policy, war or no
war!!).
I think that the biggest question in America today is not 'why do they hate us' but 'can we live in peace'. Such is the U.S. addiction
to war spending
that
every ten years or so the pressure of the military-industrial complex to 'get things moving' is overwhelming. At these turning points,
such as the two Gulf Wars (don't forget the 'green light' of 1990), reasons are found or contrived to convince the American people, any which way, that war is necessary.
The problem after the Cold War is finding reasons to renew missile technologies when the products of the previous generation of missile
technology still havn't been used up.
Why do you think George Bush Snr. was so reluctant to take out Saddam Hussein in 1991?
What better than to have a ready-made testing ground to do with as you will for ten years in a 'hot' zone?
Once a new war has been justified, military strategists can relax in the knowledge that military spending is guaranteed for the foreseeable
future.
This is the cycle that must now be broken - by telling George War-Any-Which-Way Bush that America is for all
Americans, not just for his rich cronies and Arab 'friends'.
